AT THE MOMENT WE ARE REVIEWING HOW WE DELIVER THE WORKSHOPS, AND ARE PUTTING THE ONLINE WORKSHOPS ON PAUSE FOR A SHORT WHILE.
If you would like us to deliver the training in-person for your team or department, please get in touch with us by emailing nhs.checkwithmefirst@thesurvivorstrust.org. Alternatively, email us to be added to our mailing list and be notified as soon as new dates are available.
We are really passionate about being part of the conversation to improve trauma-informed care for survivors of sexual violence and abuse as evidenced by the creation of and running this programme for the past 18 months. Over 300 frontline NHS staff have taken part so far, with 100% saying it has improved their clinical practice, which will have a hugely positive effect on the 1 in 4 patients who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. We have big plans to help more professionals and patients through this work.

#CheckWithMeFirst is a trauma-informed campaign from The Survivors Trust, started in 2020 and commissioned by NHS London, to raise awareness of the challenges survivors of rape and sexual abuse face when accessing healthcare services.
Feedback we gathered from survivors suggests that one thing that would really help them get through their medical appointments would be for healthcare professionals to let them know what they need to do and why, and to ask for consent, for every step of the procedure.
The project aims to provide professionals with the tools and knowledge to confidently engage with and best support these vulnerable patients and service-users, as well as to empower survivors to let their practitioner know what might help them to better cope with their appointment, whether or not they choose to disclose recent or non-recent abuse.
We provide these workshops for NHS staff with a view that delegates go on to be #CheckWithMeFirst Champions for the project, and become an advocate for the project, cascading the information throughout their team or department.
The workshop content is spread over two short 2.5 hour sessions; Workshop A and Workshop B.
PLEASE NOTE: As Workshop B builds and reflects on topics covered in Workshop A, delegates will need to attend a Workshop A first (ideally at least 1 week in advance).
